Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee has strongly condemned the Tripura Civil Society for allegedly instigating widespread violence following a 24-hour strike, stating that the government will take strict action and ensure no one involved goes unpunished.
Bhattacharjee made the remarks after visiting GB Pant Hospital to check on the condition of victims attacked in Santirbazar village, Salema block of Kamalpur sub-division in Dhalai district, following the strike called by the Tripura Civil Society.
“There was a protest and bandh organized by the Tripura Civil Society. What we witnessed was shocking and unacceptable. The issues they raised have already been discussed in the Assembly, and the Chief Minister has issued a clear response. A tripartite agreement has also been reached, with Delhi set to take the final decision. Yet, in the name of protest, such heinous acts are deeply painful and condemnable. Those claiming to be part of civil society are behaving entirely contrary to its principles,” Bhattacharjee said.
He added that an engineer and a Block Development Officer (BDO) were among those attacked and are receiving treatment at GB Pant Hospital.
Bhattacharjee, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, said he had discussed the incident with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha.
“The CM is closely monitoring the situation. Hooliganism under the guise of civil society will not be tolerated. Everyone is condemning this violence, and the government will ensure strict punishment. Our recent Durga Puja and Diwali celebrations passed peacefully, bringing together both tribal and non-tribal communities. Now, a conspiracy seems to be underway to disrupt this harmony. No one involved will be spared. We stand with the victims. I have also informed the central leadership, and a meeting will be held to address this issue,” he said.
