The nationwide general strike called by central trade unions and various workers’ federations had little to no visible impact in the capital city of Agartala and across the state on Thursday.
From early morning, normal life continued uninterrupted across the city.
The state government had earlier announced that all government schools, colleges, offices, and courts would remain open on February 12 and function as usual. Adhering to this directive, attendance in both government and private offices was reported to be normal. Educational institutions also witnessed a notable presence of students.
Key market areas and commercial establishments across the city remained largely unaffected by the strike. Most shops opened as usual in the morning, with regular customer activity observed throughout the day. Public transport services, along with private vehicles, operated normally, ensuring smooth movement for office-goers and residents without any major disruption.
Traffic movement in the Battala area remained steady, while transport operations at the Chandrapur ISBT bus terminal were also reported to be normal. Bus and jeep drivers were present at the terminal from early morning, and passenger numbers were largely consistent with regular days. Although the number of long-distance travelers appeared slightly lower, daily commuters were present in usual numbers.
To maintain law and order, security personnel were deployed at key intersections and sensitive areas across the city. However, no major untoward incidents were reported during the day.
Overall, despite the nationwide call for a general strike, Agartala experienced no significant disruption, and the city maintained a peaceful and normal atmosphere throughout the day.
