The petrol pump at Old Motor Stand in Agartala has been allowed to reopen after the Tripura High Court struck down the district administration’s earlier closure directive issued on 24 October 2025.
A fresh notification from the Office of the District Magistrate and Collector, West Tripura, has permitted MS Biswas & Sons to resume operations without delay.
JagaranTripura.com had earlier reported the shutdown of the fuel station. Subsequent inquiries revealed crucial legal developments leading up to its reopening.
According to sources, the High Court had granted a stay on the cancellation of the pump’s No-Objection Certificate (NOC) during a writ petition hearing on 7 October 2025. Despite this stay, officials from the Sadar Subdivision sealed the fuel station on 24 October 2025, reportedly in defiance of the court’s directive. The pump owners later approached the court with a contempt petition against the district administration.
On 13 November 2025, after hearing both parties, the High Court found the administration guilty of contempt and imposed a fine of ₹2,000. The court also struck down the 24 October closure order.
Authorities had earlier cited major fire-safety violations at the pump, including the absence of a 4.5 kg CO₂ extinguisher near the electric panel and missing 6 kg DCP extinguishers in the office and storeroom. A Fire Service inspection conducted on 16 October had flagged the deficiencies as severe safety hazards.
Following the High Court ruling, the district administration issued a new notification on 15 November 2025 canceling the earlier shutdown order. The petrol pump was instructed to reopen immediately under the supervision of the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and the pump dealer was directed to ensure full compliance with all required procedures.
