Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday underscored that the ‘One North East’ initiative is not aimed against any individual or group but is instead focused on fostering unity among the indigenous communities of the region.

He stressed that when communities act in isolation, their voices often remain “suppressed or unheard.”

Sangma arrived in Agartala to attend a large public gathering organized by One North East at Swami Vivekananda Maidan.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “When people remain divided, their voices weaken. This initiative is not meant to oppose anyone. It is simply about bringing all of us together. We want to raise our collective concerns, strengthen our bonds, and support each other so that no one feels left out.”

He added that the platform aims to create long-desired change by uniting leaders and communities across the region. “I am very encouraged by the response. Leaders from diverse communities are standing together.”

Sangma expressed confidence that the initiative would have a positive impact not only in the Northeast but across India. “The message is clear: indigenous people of this region are coming together. We will work jointly to secure a better future for our present and upcoming generations.”

Acknowledging ongoing challenges, he said the region has faced difficulties in the past and continues to do so, but added, “We are committed and focused. We will take this movement forward for the welfare of our people.”
