Opposition Failed to Deliver Despite Multiple Terms in Power: Tripura CM; says BJP Worked for the Last Person

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday expressed confidence that the BJP would secure a strong mandate in the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, asserting that the party would seek votes on the strength of its development initiatives, improved law and order, and the growing trust of people in the government.

The ULB elections are scheduled to be held on November 27, while counting of votes will take place on December 2.

Referring to the BJP’s performance in the previous ULB elections, Dr. Saha said the party had achieved encouraging results and expressed confidence that it would perform well this time too. He said the BJP would approach voters with a clear agenda centred on governance, development and public welfare.

“We had a good result in the previous ULB elections, and we are confident of performing well this time as well,” the Chief Minister said, outlining the key issues the party would highlight during its campaign.

According to Dr. Saha, the BJP would primarily focus on three major issues: the law and order situation, the development undertaken across the state, and the growing confidence of people in the present government. He said the party would also raise concerns over what it described as attempts to destabilise the country and change the government.

Highlighting the importance of civic development, the Chief Minister said the BJP would showcase its work in improving road connectivity, ensuring access to drinking water, renovating lakes and ponds, repairing narrow lanes and strengthening electricity-related infrastructure.

He emphasised that these facilities directly affect the daily lives of residents and would remain central to the party’s campaign in the urban local body elections.

“We are prepared for the elections, and we are confident that it will be a good election,” Dr. Saha said, adding that the party would seek the people’s mandate on the basis of its performance and development initiatives.

Taking a dig at the Opposition, the Chief Minister alleged that opposition parties were more interested in criticising the government than presenting a credible record of their own achievements. He claimed that despite having held power on several occasions, they had failed to deliver meaningful development for the people.

Dr. Saha maintained that since coming to power in 2018, the BJP-led government had prioritised development and welfare across Tripura, with a particular focus on ensuring that government initiatives reached the most disadvantaged sections of society.

Expressing optimism ahead of the polls, the Chief Minister said he believed voters would assess the government’s work and support the BJP based on its development record and commitment to public welfare.
