Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday accused the North Tripura district administration of attempting to displace indigenous people from District Council areas to make way for outsiders.
In a video message, Pradyot alleged that Tripura is the only state in the Northeast where tribals are being evicted from District Council lands to accommodate others.
“I have received complaints from Damcherra in North Tripura, where the administration along with a company named IGGL is allegedly threatening locals. I also got a letter from the Ranglong Association in Panisagar stating that residents living on khas (government) land for generations are being asked to vacate to establish a private township. Is this not a violation of law? Why are tribals being removed from District Council areas to give land to outsiders?” Pradyot questioned.
The royal scion further said that despite the Tripura Land Revenue (TLR) Act being in place, the Sixth Schedule is not being properly implemented.
“Without their consent, gas and oil are being exploited. And when people protest, they are threatened or arrested,” he alleged.
Pradyot also urged Tipra Motha’s MLAs and MDCs to stand by the affected families instead of “sitting at home.”
“I have reminded my warriors, MLAs, and MDCs not to forget their roots. This is not a communal issue but a matter of self-respect and land rights. If eviction is happening in Panisagar today, it can happen in your village tomorrow. Our people must unite and expose those who are displacing Tiprasas while helping outsiders settle in ADC areas,” he asserted.
