Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday launched six new Mobile Medical Units aimed at improving healthcare access across remote regions of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The units have been introduced with CSR support from Apollo and the Altius Group.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Pradyot stressed that rural communities should not be forced to travel long distances to Agartala for basic medical care. “Access to healthcare must reach the doorstep of our people. If doctors visit the villages, examine patients, and provide initial treatment, it will ease both their financial burden and travel difficulties,” he said.
The medical units will function on a village-wise schedule, organizing regular health camps to widen outreach in far-flung areas. The project has also generated employment for 30 people in the region.
Pradyot appreciated the evolving role of CSR in Tripura, recalling that earlier contributions were limited to items like computers or carrom boards. “Today, companies are investing crores in healthcare services. This reflects the progress we’ve made in the last five years,” he remarked.
He added that while previous appeals to the state government for funding ambulance drivers were declined, private companies later stepped in with CSR support to bridge the gap.
Urging continued investment in the TTAADC, Pradyot called upon more organizations to contribute in areas such as sports facilities, digital classrooms, anti-drug initiatives, and overall development of tribal youth.
