Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said on Wednesday that the welfare and future of indigenous people are more important to him than politics or personal goals.

He strongly criticised the BJP-led Tripura government for delaying the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and for not holding the long-pending Village Committee (VC) elections.

After returning to Tripura, Pradyot said that communities like the Tiprasa, Nagas, and Mizos have been talking about the same issues separately for years but have never united to raise their voice together in Delhi.

“Now the Tiprasa are not alone. The Nagas, Mizos, Arunachalis, Manipuris, and Dimasas are also with us. This will be North East thansa (unity). My only brand is the people. There is nothing more important than their future. I love my community more than any brand or political name,” he said.

Pradyot added that the future of the Tiprasa people matters more than the future of any political party — whether it is the BJP, Tipra Motha, CPIM, or Congress. “I am thinking about our people, not politics,” he said.

Talking about the VC elections, he said, “On Monday, the hearing for the Village Council will take place. The Tripura government asked for more time, but the Chief Justice refused. If the government is ready to hold elections, why do we have to go to the Supreme Court? The last election was in 2016, and now it’s almost 2026. Is this democracy? They could have done it earlier. I will also meet the Chief Minister to discuss the Tiprasa Accord,” he added.
