Pradyot signals possible land rights notification soon; vows no compromise on Tiprasa interests

Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has expressed hope for an early breakthrough on the long-pending demand for land rights for Tripura’s indigenous communities, indicating that the Centre may issue a notification on the matter within the next 24 to 48 hours following his discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Pradyot disclosed that he spoke with Amit Shah on Wednesday and indicated that representatives of the Tipra Motha Party could soon be called to New Delhi for further consultations on the issue.

According to him, the proposed notification could provide a roadmap for taking forward the demand for securing land rights for the indigenous population. He stressed that the process should move forward without unnecessary delay, as the issue remains central to the aspirations and future of the Tiprasa community.

Making it clear that the demand for indigenous rights would remain at the forefront of his political position, Pradyot said development in Tripura could not be meaningful unless the rights of its indigenous people were adequately protected and recognised.

He also sought to reassure the Tiprasa community that he would not back down from his commitment, asserting that neither the future of Tripura nor the interests of its indigenous population would be compromised under any circumstances.

Pradyot further cautioned against political differences that could undermine collective efforts to secure the community's demands. He called for unity and constructive engagement, maintaining that dialogue and negotiations were essential to finding a lasting solution.

He said the objective was not merely to secure immediate political gains but to ensure peace, development and a secure future for the next generation.

Referring to the Tiprasa Accord, the Tipra Motha founder reiterated that all its agreed points must be implemented, stressing that the community's aspirations should be addressed through meaningful dialogue and concrete action.

His remarks come amid renewed expectations of progress on the indigenous rights issue following his latest interaction with the Union Home Minister.
