The Union Government has released the first installment of the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) Untied Grants for Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) during the financial year 2025–26 for Tripura.
As per official reports, Tripura has received Rs 29.75 crore for 606 eligible Gram Panchayats, 35 Block Panchayats, 8 Zilla Parishads, 587 Village Committees and 40 Block Advisory Committees.
According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the XV FC Grants are released in two installments every financial year in consultation with the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The move is expected to strengthen grassroots-level governance and boost developmental activities in rural areas of Tripura.
“These grants are meant to address location-specific felt needs of RLBs/PRIs under the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding salaries and other establishment costs,” the statement said.
While Untied Grants give flexibility to local bodies, the Tied Grants are specifically mandated for ensuring basic services. These include (a) sanitation and maintenance of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, household waste management, human excreta and fecal sludge treatment, and (b) supply of safe drinking water, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling.
