Preparations for the upcoming Saras Mela, scheduled tentatively from December 13, are in full swing as Tarit Kanti Chakma, CEO of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), visited the International Fair Ground at Hapania on Wednesday to review ongoing arrangements.
During the visit, the CEO was accompanied by the Additional CEO TRLM, ADM West Dy. CEO, Executive Engineer RD, SDO RD, and other officials. The team inspected the layout and infrastructural readiness of the fairground, which is set to host one of the largest livelihood fairs in the region.
According to officials, a total of 400 stalls are being set up for the event. Of these, 335 stalls have been designated for Self Help Group (SHG) Didis from Tripura as well as other states across India, showcasing their products and entrepreneurial talents. An additional 65 stalls have been reserved for various line departments, including Police, Medical, and Press.
In a major promotional initiative, eight large decorative gates will be erected across different parts of Agartala city, while hundreds of posters will be displayed in all districts to ensure wide public outreach.
The two-week-long Mega Saras Fair will witness participation from SHG members from within the state and across the country, offering a diverse range of products, crafts, and livelihood innovations.
In a significant announcement, TRLM officials also revealed that, for the first time, a dedicated Food Saras Fair is planned for January 2026. This special edition is expected to bring together thousands of SHGs exclusively showcasing food items and processed food products.
With large-scale preparations underway, the upcoming Saras Mela is anticipated to be a major boost for women-led rural enterprises and an important cultural-economic event for the state.
