Security forces achieved a major success in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-affected Bijapur district after uncovering a hidden Maoist facility and recovering a large stockpile of weapons and equipment from a forested area, police officials said on Monday.

The joint operation was carried out in the dense hills of the Doditumnar Patelpara region under the Gangaloor police station limits. Acting on intelligence inputs, a coordinated team comprising personnel from the Pedia Police Assistance Centre and Gangaloor police launched a targeted search in the difficult terrain.

During the operation, the forces located an underground bunker believed to have been used by Maoists for storing arms and assembling equipment, away from surveillance. Officials said the structure appeared to be a well-organised hideout designed for logistical and operational support.

Before entering the site, security personnel conducted standard anti-explosive and safety checks to rule out any traps or improvised explosive devices. Once cleared, a detailed search of the facility led to the recovery of a significant cache of materials.

The seized items included generators, lathe machines, batteries, solar panels, and power backup systems, indicating efforts to maintain a self-sustained setup deep inside the forest. Officials also recovered welding and drilling equipment, along with a functional improvised grenade launcher and multiple shells.

In addition, around 50 metres of cord wire used for explosive triggering and storage drums were found at the site, further pointing to the bunker’s use as a support and fabrication hub for Maoist operations.

Police officials stated that the recovered materials have been taken into custody and moved to the local station. Further investigation is underway to determine the network behind the storage and usage of the seized equipment.

Authorities described the operation as an important step in weakening insurgent infrastructure in the region and strengthening security in the Bastar zone.
