Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today came down heavily on the bandh called by trade unions on February 12, stating that such shutdowns adversely impact the general public, particularly daily wage earners and workers.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister remarked that organisations calling for bandhs often project themselves as champions of the working class. However, he said the reality is quite the opposite, as such shutdowns deprive daily labourers of their earnings and disrupt their livelihoods.
Highlighting the current phase of rapid development in the country, Dr. Saha said that repeated bandhs hamper normal life and slow down progress. “Bandhs serve no constructive purpose. They only cause inconvenience to the people and result in economic losses,” he added.
Reiterating his firm opposition to the shutdown call, the Chief Minister said that the people of Tripura do not support such disruptive practices and urged all concerned to avoid actions that inconvenience the public.
