The Supreme Court of India has directed the Tripura State Election Commission to hold the long-delayed Village Committee (VC) elections alongside the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls.

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party, welcomed the decision, calling it a major win for local democracy. He said the order ends nearly a decade of delays, as VC elections have not been held for more than ten years.

The Tipra Motha Party had approached the Supreme Court in October 2025 after repeated postponements. Debbarma said the state government and election authorities must now follow the Supreme Court’s direction.

He described the ruling as “a huge victory for the democratic rights of the Tiprasa people” and said it will restore village-level governance in tribal areas that have been without elections for years.
