Tripura Police achieved major success in their ongoing anti-narcotics drive by arresting three persons and seizing illegal drugs worth approximately Rs 22 lakh in two separate operations across the state.

In the first incident, police personnel from Mungiakami Police Station under Teliamura Sub-division in Khowai District recovered a large quantity of cannabis during a routine vehicle-checking drive at the 41 Mile area. Acting on suspicion, police stopped and searched a car coming from the Sidhai–Mohanpur area of West District. During the search, around 52 kilograms of ganja were found concealed inside the vehicle. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is about ₹10 lakh.

Two persons, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested in connection with the case. The vehicle along with the recovered ganja was seized, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the drug trafficking network.

In another major breakthrough, Dharmanagar Police Station under North District, with assistance from the Intelligence Department, conducted a special anti-drug operation based on a tip-off. The operation was carried out near Dharmanagar Railway Station Road, where a woman identified as Shukla Debnath (37) was detained. She is a resident of Kamalasagar in Sepahijala District and was currently residing in Chandrapur, Agartala.

According to police sources, the woman was found roaming suspiciously in the Rajbari area of Dharmanagar on Tuesday morning. Upon searching her belongings, police recovered 1,960 Yaba tablets packed in 10 packets. The estimated market value of the seized tablets is around ₹12 lakh. The seizure was conducted following all legal formalities in the presence of a DCM and a forensic team.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that she had arrived in Dharmanagar from Agartala on the same day and was involved in transporting narcotics within the state and to other locations. Further investigation is ongoing.
