Speaker of the Tripura Assembly, Biswa Bandhu, 72, is reported to be stable on room air at Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, where he is undergoing treatment under Dr. Ravi Gopal Varma, Director of the Global Centre for Excellence in Neurosciences and Lead Consultant Neurosurgeon.
Speaker Biswa Bandhu had earlier undergone a decompressive craniotomy in Tripura for a left thalamocapsular bleed with intraventricular extension.
Upon arrival at Aster CMI, he was on ventilator support with stable vital signs.
A CT scan revealed hydrocephalus and raised intracranial pressure, prompting an emergency right frontal external ventricular drain (EVD) placement, followed by a tracheostomy. He was gradually weaned off the ventilator and is currently breathing independently. The EVD was replaced on the eighth post-procedure day to prevent infection.
Neurologically, Speaker’s condition remains consistent, with the left frontotemporal flap lax and intracranial pressure relatively reduced. Hospital authorities confirm that he continues to remain stable on room air.
