Railway services across Tripura came to a standstill on Thursday as a statewide bandh, called by the Tripura Civil Society, disrupted train operations throughout the region.

The bandh, organized to press for demands including the detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), and implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, saw protesters blocking railway tracks at several points in the Dharmanagar–Agartala section from around 7:25 a.m.

As a result, train movement was severely affected, with multiple cancellations, short terminations, and controlled operations.

According to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), seven trains were cancelled and several others partially operated. Train No. 55676 (Dharmanagar–Agartala Passenger) was short-terminated at Ambassa, while Train No. 15664 (Silchar–Agartala Express) was short-terminated at Karimganj. Its corresponding service, Train No. 15663 (Agartala–Silchar Express), was short-originated from Karimganj, remaining cancelled between Agartala and Karimganj.

Local DMU services—Train Nos. 75684 (Agartala–Sabroom), 75683 (Sabroom–Agartala), 75679 (Agartala–Karimganj), and 75680 (Karimganj–Agartala)—were cancelled for the day.

Long-distance trains were also affected. Train No. 07030 (Charlapalli–Agartala Special), which started on October 20, was controlled at Dharmanagar. Meanwhile, Train No. 13174 (Sabroom–Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express) and Train No. 12520 (Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus SF Express), both scheduled to depart on October 23, were held at Agartala and Jirania respectively.

Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma confirmed the disruptions and advised passengers to check the latest travel updates before planning their journeys. Railway authorities said services would resume once tracks are cleared and normalcy restored.
