Tripura BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma on Saturday asserted that Tipra Motha’s influence will significantly diminish in the 2026 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, claiming that public sentiment is shifting firmly in the BJP’s favour.

Debbarma made the remarks after reviewing preparations for a large joining programme scheduled for Sunday at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala. According to him, over 5,000 Janajati voters are expected to join the BJP during the event, which is likely to draw a crowd of more than 25,000 people.

“Many of those joining us are coming from Tipra Motha and the CPI(M). Several leaders who have worked with these parties will also become part of the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya,” Debbarma said. “Tomorrow’s programme will demonstrate the BJP’s deep-rooted strength and the work we have done for the people.”

Debbarma emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi leads by example as a grassroots worker, a trait he said is shared by BJP leaders in Tripura.

“I am not from a royal background; I have risen from the grassroots,” he added. “BJP does not focus on power or political gain. Our primary goal is to work for the welfare and progress of both tribal and non-tribal communities.”

In a veiled criticism of Tipra Motha, the BJP leader accused certain political groups of frequently changing identities for financial motives and confusing the public. “People will ultimately decide whom to support. Those who only make big promises but fail to deliver will inevitably face decline,” he said.

Debbarma further added that the overwhelming support the BJP is receiving from people across communities reinforces his belief that Tipra Motha’s decline in the next TTAADC elections is “inevitable.”
