Senior BJP leader and former MP Rebati Tripura has sharply criticized Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman, claiming that his new “One North East” campaign is an attempt to deceive the people of the region.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Rebati Tripura alleged that Pradyot has launched this initiative—supported by what he described as leaders of “failed regional parties”—to counter his own “political identity crisis.”

He said that a recent Tipra Motha event, held under the One North East banner at Stable Ground, featured “provocative and self-contradictory” speeches by Pradyot and other regional leaders. According to him, they felt emboldened to make such statements because of the political atmosphere created under BJP governance.

Rebati accused Pradyot of trying to rekindle divisive politics at a time when Tripura is experiencing “comparative peace and stability.” He further argued that regional parties inherently lack longevity, often emerging around “one or two emotional issues” to sway public sentiment.

The BJP leader also pointed out that Pradyot’s earlier demands for “Tipraland” or “Greater Tipraland” have now disappeared, claiming that the One North East campaign is simply another method for him to remain politically relevant. “His positions keep changing. What he said during his time in the Congress differs from what he says now. In another ten years, he will call this too a mistake,” Rebati remarked.

He went on to criticize the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging mismanagement, financial irregularities, and a failure to adhere to constitutional norms. Rebati demanded a thorough financial audit, saying that development under the council exists “only on paper.”

Rejecting the idea of separate statehood or special constitutional provisions for tribal areas, he stressed that such aspirations are unrealistic for a geographically small state like Tripura.
