A five-member delegation of the Tripura BJP on Friday visited Santirbazar village in Dhalai district to review the situation following the recent violence that erupted during the statewide bandh on October 23, called by the Tripura Civil Society. The team is set to submit a detailed report to Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha.
The delegation comprised SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, BJP MLA Swapna Pal, and BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Minister Sudhangshu Das said the team inspected the affected areas to understand the extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the incident. “This is a deeply unfortunate event. Several shops were set on fire and looted, and many people—including a BDO and an engineer—were injured in brutal attacks. Such violence has no place in our society, which always stands for peace,” he said.
Das emphasized that both tribal and non-tribal communities suffered losses during the violence. “We live together in harmony—tribal and non-tribal alike. Attempts to create divisions among communities are deplorable. I strongly condemn those who are trying to benefit politically from this situation,” he added.
The minister further informed that the state government has already provided interim relief to the affected families and completed a primary assessment of damages. “After final verification, we will submit a comprehensive report to the Chief Minister,” Das said.
