The Tripura Cabinet has announced a series of decisions, including the allotment of residential land to Commonwealth Games gold medallist and state judoka Asmita Dey, a new eligibility criterion for government jobs and recruitment to 552 vacant posts across different departments.

Cabinet Spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said the government has allotted 2.5 gonda (0.0500 acre) of land in Agartala to Asmita Dey for construction of a residential house in recognition of her outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Cabinet has also waived the land premium of around Rs 33.50 lakh.

The Cabinet approved the recruitment of 185 Junior Pump Operators under the Public Works Department. The Group C posts require Madhyamik and ITI qualifications, while the recruitment examination will be conducted by the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT).

Another 57 faculty positions at the Veterinary Science College under the Animal Resources Development Department have been cleared for direct recruitment through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). The vacancies comprise 17 Professors, 20 Associate Professors and 20 Assistant Professors.

In addition, the Cabinet approved recruitment to 310 posts under Tripura Engineering Service Grade-V A and B, including Junior Engineer positions in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical disciplines under the Public Works Department. The recruitment will be conducted through TPSC.

A major change has also been introduced in the eligibility criteria for state government employment. The earlier requirement to submit a Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) has been withdrawn following legal proceedings and observations by the Tripura High Court concerning its compatibility with Article 16(3) of the Constitution.

Under the revised provision, applicants for Tripura government jobs must have completed at least five years of continuous regular schooling in a school located in Tripura.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of four new fire stations at Boxanagar in Sepahijala, Manu Bankul in South Tripura, Ganganagar in Dhalai and Garjee in Gomati district.

Besides these measures, the government has decided to enhance various financial grants provided to families of ex-servicemen.
