The Tripura Cabinet, in its meeting approved key amendments to the Tripura Journalists’ Pension Scheme 2021 and the Tripura Media Representatives Accreditation Guidelines 2020 to ensure broader coverage and simplify procedures for journalists and their families.

According to the revised provisions, several new measures have been introduced to bring all eligible retired journalists and families of deceased journalists under the pension scheme. The amendments include necessary changes to the minimum age requirement for receiving pensions and rules related to accreditation cards. Procedures concerning benefits for families of deceased journalists have also been further simplified.

The Cabinet has additionally removed the income ceiling previously required for availing pension benefits. Provisions have also been amended to allow continuation of pension in cases where allegations are under investigation, subject to evidence.

In a move aimed at improving facilities for media workers, the Cabinet also cleared the second amendment to the Tripura Media Accreditation Guidelines 2020. The updated guidelines involve restructuring of accreditation categories, re-evaluation mechanisms, formation of committees as per Press Council of India norms, and revisions to conditions related to issuance and maintenance of accreditation cards.

These amendments were approved based on proposals submitted by the concerned department during the Cabinet meeting on November 18, 2025.
