Tripura Cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Choudhury today announced that the state government has approved the creation and filling up of over 400 posts across multiple departments, alongside clearing proposals to upgrade two major educational institutions into full-fledged universities.

Briefing the media after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Choudhury said the government has taken significant decisions aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency, improving education infrastructure, and expanding welfare services.

Major Recruitment Approvals

The cabinet approved a large number of posts across key departments:

  • Cooperative Department:
    Approval to fill 97 vacant Group-C posts—including Auditor (Operation), Investigator (Operator), and Statistical Investigator. These will be recruited on a fixed-pay basis through JRBT examinations.
  • Social Welfare & Social Education Department:
    Sanction to fill 28 Supervisor posts under ICDS projects through direct recruitment by the TPSC.
  • Urban Development Department:
    Creation and filling of 14 new technical posts across civil, mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering sections.
  • ICA Department:
    Appointment of eight faculty members and supporting staff on a contractual basis for the Tripura Film and Television Institute.
  • Directorate of Secondary Education:
    Approval to appoint 22 night guards under fixed-pay Group-D posts.

Education Boost: Two Institutions to Become Universities

In a major push to expand higher education, the cabinet cleared proposals to upgrade:

  1. Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) into a Technical University, bringing all technical institutions in the state under a single umbrella.
  2. Government Women’s College into the Tripura Government Women’s University, providing greater opportunities for women’s higher education.

Expansion of Anganwadi Services

To strengthen early childhood care, the government has sanctioned:

  • Opening of 119 new Anganwadi centres.
  • Creation of 119 Anganwadi Worker posts and 119 Anganwadi Helper posts.

Journalist Pension Scheme to Be Revised

Choudhury added that the cabinet has also approved amendments to the existing Tripura Journalist Pension Scheme to make benefits more accessible and to expand coverage to a larger number of journalists.
