The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to stifle opposition activities in the state, following an alleged attack and arson at its party office in Bishalgarh sub-division under Sepahijala district.
TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha on Sunday said unidentified miscreants vandalized, looted, and set fire to the Congress office in Bishalgarh on October 28.
He alleged that such incidents have been recurring since the BJP came to power in 2018.
“On October 28, our party office in Bishalgarh was set ablaze by miscreants and vandalized. Since 2018, after the formation of the BJP government, we have been unable to conduct any activities from this office. The ruling party has repeatedly attacked the premises, looted furniture, and even set it on fire multiple times. Despite repeatedly drawing the attention of the administration, no action has been taken,” Saha said.
He further alleged that the attacks were part of a deliberate attempt by the BJP to obstruct the functioning of opposition parties in the subdivision.
“In the past too, our workers were attacked while trying to operate from this office. Whenever we attempt to resume work, they launch fresh attacks and hatch conspiracies to prevent us from engaging in political activities for the welfare of the people. This clearly shows how the BJP is working to suppress opposition voices,” Saha added.
The TPCC president also criticized the administration for its alleged inaction, claiming that authorities have remained silent despite repeated complaints. “A sense of fear prevails in Bishalgarh. We urge the administration to intervene immediately and ensure that opposition parties can function without intimidation,” he said.
