Pradesh Congress Committee MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Sunday voiced strong concerns over the rising incidents of political violence in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region.

Calling on all political parties to “shun hostility,” Roy Barman said, “Violence can never be the path to a solution. Bringing smiles to people’s faces is the greatest achievement any government or party can aspire to.”

His remarks came in response to the recent clashes in Khumulwng, where he alleged a serious administrative failure in preventing the unrest. While acknowledging that disturbances have occurred in Khumulwng before, he insisted that earlier incidents lacked any political motive.

“Political clashes in the hills never occurred in the past — the records will show this. Why is it happening now? These tendencies began only after the BJP came to power. This culture has been introduced under the current government,” the Congress leader claimed.

Referring to the controversial comments made by Minister Animesh Debbarma, he said such remarks were detrimental to the state’s political and administrative environment. He added that the situation in Khumulwng had caused fear among hill residents, and the government could not evade responsibility.

Responding to questions from the media, Roy Barman argued that comments made by members of the ruling alliance itself validated the opposition’s allegations.

“If the opposition’s claims were baseless, the government should have responded directly. But when an ally indirectly supports what the opposition is saying, it raises a serious question — is the government truly unable to control the situation?” he asked.

Roy Barman also criticized Chief Minister Manik Saha’s assertion that the state’s healthcare system has improved.

“If the health system is improving, why are political leaders admitted to private hospitals whenever they fall ill? If leaders do not trust government hospitals, how can ordinary people?” he said.

Calling for the restoration of peace and stability in the hill regions, the MLA emphasized that politics must prioritize public welfare. He urged all political parties to work together to end the cycle of violence and rebuild trust among the people.
