Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has welcomed the ongoing public debate triggered by his recent social media post concerning an exclusive meeting convened by the Chief Minister at his residence wit the tribal officers.

The meeting, reportedly attended by a select group of officers belonging to a particular community, has drawn attention from sections of the local media and individuals, prompting Chaudhury to seek greater transparency on the issue.

In a fresh statement, Chaudhury posed a series of questions to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, media, and the public, aiming to “bring an end to the controversies” surrounding the meeting. He questioned which government department had convened the meeting if its purpose was to ensure better coordination in implementing welfare schemes dedicated to a specific community or area.

The Opposition leader further raised concerns over the absence of senior bureaucrats, pointing out that neither the Chief Secretary nor any senior-most Principal Secretary or Secretary was present, despite the Chief Minister himself chairing the session. He noted that retired officer Uttam Chakma, currently serving as Secretary to the Governor on a re-employment basis, was in attendance, questioning the rationale behind such selective participation.

Chaudhury also highlighted procedural irregularities, stating that as per standard government practice, even block-level meetings involving multiple departments produce official minutes and publish a list of attendees. He asked whether such a document had been prepared or made public in this case.

By bringing these questions forward, Chaudhury said he sought clarity and accountability from the Chief Minister’s Office, underscoring the importance of transparency in governance.
