In support of a nationwide general strike called by trade unions, the Left Front organized a protest rally in the Agartala city.
The rally saw the participation of former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury, CITU state president Manik De, and other Left Front leaders and workers.
The march began at the Melar Math, traversed through various city streets, and concluded back at the Mela Ground. Throughout the procession, participants raised slogans demanding the protection of workers’ rights.
Addressing reporters after the rally, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated that the policies adopted by the BJP government have placed additional burdens on ordinary citizens and working people.
He emphasized that the strike has been called to safeguard workers’ rights, ensure job security, and secure fair wages.
He further criticized recent agreements with American imperialism, claiming that these deals have created challenges for workers. Under the BJP government, he said, workers and farmers are facing numerous difficulties. “This movement is a fight to protect people’s interests, and it will continue to grow,” he added.
Opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury also criticized the central government’s policies, stating that the strike became inevitable due to the neglect of workers’ and ordinary people’s demands.
