Government Railway Police (GRP), in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), detained two Bangladeshi nationals during a routine check at Udaipur Police Station in Tripura’s Gomati district on Tuesday morning.
According to GRP officials, the two men aroused suspicion due to their nervous behaviour and contradictory responses during initial questioning. After sustained interrogation, they confessed to being Bangladeshi citizens who had entered India illegally in search of employment.
The detainees were identified as Md Ibrahim (34) and Shakib ul Hasan (18), both hailing from Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.
Md Ibrahim stated that he had entered Tripura approximately three months ago and had been working as a mason at various locations, including Charilam in Sepahijala district, Battala in Agartala under West Tripura district, and Udaipur in Gomati district. He further told police that he was on his way to Odisha for work at the time of his detention.
Shakib ul Hasan, meanwhile, disclosed that he had entered Tripura nearly one-and-a-half years ago with the assistance of touts. He informed investigators that he was travelling towards Chennai in search of employment opportunities.
Police officials said that both individuals have been detained for further interrogation to gather details about their illegal entry, travel routes, and the possible involvement of agents or human traffickers. Legal action is being initiated as per established procedures.
