The Tripura State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) has become the first in the Northeast to receive the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, enhancing protection against cyber threats, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced today at the 2nd Foundation Day of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

The certification, mandated by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for all SLDCs nationwide, ensures the security of critical computerized systems and the national power grid. The Tripura SLDC successfully cleared the System Surveillance Audit conducted by STQC after addressing non-conformities in biometric access control, intelligent threat detection, smoke detection (VESDA), user identity management, and physical security.

Minister Nath highlighted the long history of Tripura’s power sector, which spans 89 years from 1937 to 2026. “TSECL was formed in 2004, but electricity supply in Tripura began with diesel engines during the princely era. After Tripura merged with India in 1949, TSECL began operations in 2005. Since then, consumer numbers have grown from 3.9 lakh to 15.7 lakh, 132 kV substations increased from 3 to 12, and 33 kV substations have expanded from 33 to 75. Transmission lines have also grown from 89 km in 2017 to 590 km today,” he said.

The Minister emphasized that power is essential for development and modernization. “We have shifted from offline to online systems, introduced smart meters, transparent billing, 24×7 call centres, and digital services. Earlier load-shedding is now managed online, and fault rectification services are prompt,” he added.

Tripura’s power demand has risen from 220 MW in 2005 to 378 MW in 2025–26, with projections of 650 MW by 2031. The state is advancing gas and solar projects, a 120 MW combined cycle plant at Rukhia, restoration of the Gumti Hydro Electric Plant, an 800 MW pumped storage project, underground cabling across Agartala, drone-based fault detection, and solar coverage for hospitals and educational institutions.

“These initiatives reflect our commitment to reliable, modern, and sustainable power, which is the key driver of Tripura’s development,” the Minister concluded.
