Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath today criticized the Left Front government for failing to work for the development of the state during their 35 years of rule, which he said is evident from their budgetary allocations.

The Minister stated that the development of a state can be seen through its budgetary allocation and amounts, and a real example of this is the current scenario on Statehood Day, as Tripura is witnessing massive development under the BJP-led government.

He noted that in 1963 and 1964, the first budgets were presented, and the amounts were Rs 9.47 crore, while the population was 11 lakh 42 thousand. The Minister informed that in 1972-73, the budget was Rs 43 crore 60 lakh for a population of 15 lakh, whereas the latest budget for 2025-26 is Rs 32,423 crore 54 lakh.

“During their 35 years, the CPI(M) spent Rs 1 lakh 35 thousand crore on the development of the people, while during our eight years, the budget has been Rs 1 lakh 87 thousand crore. The budget has significantly increased, which proves from this that the CPI(M)’s mentality was limited,” he said.

The Minister also said that the Niti Aayog’s report shows how Tripura is progressing. “In the last report, Goa came first in three segments, Tripura in two, Kerala in two, Gujarat in two, Maharashtra in one, Tamil Nadu in one, Andhra Pradesh in one, Himachal Pradesh in one, Nagaland in one, and Sikkim in one. We are ranked first in ‘Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production,’ which means whatever we produce, we make sure it is preserved for the future. We are also first in ‘Life on Land and Ecosystems,’ scoring 95 out of 100. We are now a front-runner state in Poverty Eradication: 71/100, Hunger Eradication: 63/100, Health: 79/100, Quality Education: 52/100, Gender Equality: 54/100, Clean Water and Sanitation: 82/100, Green Energy: 75/100, Decent Work and Economic Growth: 74/100, Inequality Reduction: 77/100, and Peace and Justice: 82/100,” the Minister said.

“These achievements reflect our full commitment on the occasion of Statehood Day,” he added.
