A five-member team from the Tipra Students’ Federation (TSF) met with Tribal Welfare Department Director Subhasis Das on Monday, submitting a formal appeal urging the department to clear long-pending scholarship dues for tribal students.

In their memorandum, TSF representatives drew attention to the growing difficulties faced by students who, even midway through the 2024–25 fiscal year, have not received the financial assistance they are eligible for. The organisation stressed that the delay has created a serious setback for many families relying on these funds to keep their children in school and college.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, TSF vice-president John Debbarma emphasized that the department must act without further postponement. He pointed out that continued delays are placing disproportionate pressure on economically vulnerable tribal households.

“The prolonged wait for scholarship disbursement has pushed thousands of students into uncertainty, and parents are finding it increasingly difficult to handle even routine educational expenses,” Debbarma said.

The delegation demanded that the Tribal Welfare Department take prompt corrective measures and ensure accountability within its administrative processes so that the scholarship backlog can be cleared at the earliest.
