An unidentified elderly man was found dead inside a drain on the premises of Dharmanagar District Hospital on Thursday, triggering concern among patients and visitors.

The incident came to light at around 12 noon when some people entering the hospital noticed a man lying motionless in a drain within the hospital campus. Hospital authorities were immediately informed, following which Dharmanagar Police were alerted.

A police team rushed to the spot and retrieved the man from the drain. He was subsequently taken inside the hospital, where the attending doctor examined him and declared him dead.

According to hospital sources, the deceased is believed to be between 60 and 65 years of age. His identity, however, could not be established immediately.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. It is yet to be ascertained whether the man accidentally fell into the drain or whether there were other factors involved in his death.

Dharmanagar Police have begun an investigation and are making efforts to identify the deceased. Police are also examining the circumstances in which he ended up inside the hospital drain and the exact cause of his death.

The incident caused a brief stir on the hospital premises as news of the recovery spread among patients, attendants and visitors.
