The water crisis has emerged as one of the major challenges in smart city areas. Keeping this in view, an important meeting was held on Tuesday at the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) conference hall with the participation of all corporators to address issues related to drinking water supply.
The meeting focused on whether purified drinking water is reaching different wards under the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Present at the meeting were AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, all corporators, officials from the Water Board, and senior AMC officials.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Dipak Majumder stated that there are problems in supplying drinking water in certain wards of the municipal corporation area. To resolve these issues, a detailed discussion was held between AMC officials and Water Board authorities on ways to ensure proper water supply in the affected areas.
He further informed that so far, drinking water connections have not been provided to 17,377 families within the municipal corporation area. A project has already been taken up to provide drinking water connections to these households.
The mayor also pointed out that ongoing smart city development works have led to several problems, such as damage to water and gas pipelines. The Water Board has been instructed to take immediate action upon receiving any complaint and to keep the complainant informed about the steps taken to resolve the issue.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to improve coordination between the Agartala Municipal Corporation and the Water Board to ensure uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water to all residents.
