A 40-year-old man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a passenger bus on the National Highway at the Betaga Signboard area under Shantirbazar police station on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Dipankar Talukdar (40), son of Nitai Talukdar and a resident of the Muhuripur area.
According to preliminary information, the accident took place at around 1:25 pm near the college at Betaga Signboard. A bus bearing registration number TR 01 B 1392 was travelling from Sabroom towards Agartala, while a motorcycle bearing registration number TR 08 A 6702 was reportedly proceeding from Birchandranagar Bazar towards Muhuripur.
The two vehicles collided after reaching the Betaga Signboard area. The impact threw the motorcycle rider onto the highway, leaving him critically injured.
On receiving information about the accident, personnel from the Shantirbazar Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and rescued the injured man. He was subsequently taken to Shantirbazar District Hospital for treatment.
However, doctors at the hospital examined him and declared him dead.
Police from Shantirbazar police station later reached the accident site and initiated an investigation. The bus and motorcycle involved in the collision have been taken under police scrutiny as part of the probe into the circumstances leading to the accident.
The deceased’s body has been kept at the Shantirbazar morgue. It will be handed over to the family after completion of the post-mortem examination.
