The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has presented its budget for the financial year 2026–27, amounting to Rs 975 crore 91 lakh. The budget was tabled by Mayor Dipak Majumdar at a conference held in Agartala Municipal Corporation’s conference hall.
The budget shows a deficit of Rs 97 lakh 67 thousand. However, the Mayor clarified that no new taxes have been proposed in the financial plan.
Highlighting the priorities of the budget, Majumdar said that emphasis has been placed on overall urban development, improvement of civic services, and infrastructure expansion. He also noted that this is the first time an e-budget has been presented by the municipal body.
According to the Mayor, while the revenue account remains in surplus, the overall deficit has arisen due to higher capital expenditure. He, however, expressed confidence that this would not affect the implementation of ongoing or proposed development projects.
A key feature of the budget is a significant increase in capital expenditure focused on infrastructure development. The AMC has also proposed raising ₹100 crore through municipal bonds as a new source of funding. In addition, continued emphasis has been placed on centrally and externally aided projects.
The budget also outlines plans to strengthen own-source revenue by improving tax collection and other municipal income streams.
Mayor Majumdar described the budget as a balanced and forward-looking financial strategy aimed at sustainable urban development, modern infrastructure creation, and expansion of civic amenities. He added that the expected revenue surplus in the future would support public welfare and development initiatives in the city.
