Police have made a major breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Ramzan Ali, alias Titu, a resident of the Gangail area, by arresting two youths allegedly involved in the crime.
The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by West Agartala Police Station and Battala Outpost.
Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee of West Agartala Police Station said the investigation is progressing with the help of scientific methods and forensic evidence. He stated that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined. The two accused were produced before a court on Tuesday, while the investigation remains ongoing. More crucial information is expected to emerge as the probe advances.
The case came to light on the morning of June 28 when local residents noticed bloodstains near the newly constructed riverside park in Gangail. Suspecting that someone had been murdered and the body dumped into the Howrah River, they alerted the police. A joint search operation involving the police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Civil Defence, and the Fire and Emergency Services led to the recovery of Ramzan Ali's body from the river.
According to police sources, the victim's body bore multiple deep injuries, strengthening suspicions that the murder was premeditated. The victim's family has maintained from the outset that he was murdered. They claimed Ramzan Ali was last seen in the area around 9 p.m. on the night before his body was recovered, and said the bloodstains found at the scene further support their allegation.
The family has demanded a comprehensive investigation and strict punishment for those responsible.
Police said forensic experts are assisting in the investigation and assured that legal action would be taken against anyone else found to be involved. The arrest of the two accused is being viewed as the first major breakthrough in this high-profile murder investigation.
