In a swift humanitarian operation, Assam Rifles successfully rescued a 10-year-old boy who had gone missing from Dimapur, Nagaland, and ensured his safe return to his family.

The child, identified as Joseph Mao, had been reported missing from Neisatuo Colony in Dimapur on August 22, 2026.

According to Assam Rifles, on August 23, Rifleman Lawrance Hrangkhawl noticed the boy travelling alone on a train from Dimapur. The child was carrying a school bag and was not accompanied by any adult. During questioning, he was unable to provide his exact home address or explain why he had boarded the train.

Displaying alertness and presence of mind, Rifleman Hrangkhawl immediately reported the matter to his superiors. The boy was then brought to an Assam Rifles location at Radhanagar in Tripura, where efforts were launched to establish his identity and trace his family.

During the verification process, Assam Rifles personnel found a missing-person appeal for Joseph Mao circulating on Instagram. They promptly contacted the child’s parents and informed them that their son had been found safe.

The matter was also reported to the local police authorities to facilitate necessary coordination and ensure the child’s safe handover to his family.

Assam Rifles said the prompt action of its personnel helped prevent any harm to the child and brought immense relief to his family. The incident highlights the force’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and public safety beyond its operational duties.
