Panic and curiosity gripped residents of Baghaichar in Kathalia, Sepahijala district, after a massive Burmese python, measuring nearly nine feet and weighing around 15 kilograms, was found inside a residential house late Sunday night.

The snake was reportedly spotted at around 2:58 a.m. at the residence of Abul Khayer. Following the alert, snake rescuers Asim Majumder and Lokai Dey of the Animal Aid Alliance Welfare Society reached the spot and began an operation to safely capture the reptile.

After several hours of effort, the rescuers managed to secure the python without causing harm to the animal. They later arranged for its relocation to a suitable natural habitat. The rescuers said they have been working for years to remove snakes from residential areas and release them safely into forests and other appropriate habitats. According to them, around 305 snakes have been rescued and released so far.

The rescue operation received assistance from personnel of Jatrapur Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Prarthanath Bhowmik and Sub-Inspector Prosenjit Debnath reportedly provided a police vehicle to transport the rescuers and the python to the Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary area.

The reptile was subsequently released into a safe habitat in the sanctuary area.

The unusual sight of such a large python in a populated locality quickly became the talk of the area. By Monday morning, a sizeable crowd had gathered at the local market to see the rescued snake when it was brought there.

Residents praised the snake rescuers and police personnel for handling the situation carefully and ensuring that the python was returned safely to its natural environment, highlighting the importance of protecting wildlife while preventing potential risks to people.
