Following a Supreme Court judgment, the Education Department has regularised six irregular employees. On Wednesday, the department handed over their regularisation documents.
According to their lawyer, Purushottam Ray Barman, the six employees were working as DRW (Daily Rated Worker) staff under the Secondary Education wing of the Education Department. They had initially approached the High Court seeking regularisation. However, the High Court upheld the state government’s position, stating that since no applicable scheme existed, their regularisation could not be granted.
Subsequently, all eight employees approached the Supreme Court by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP). In April, the Supreme Court delivered its verdict, directing the state government to regularise the eight employees within three months.
Acting on the order, the Education Department issued regularisation letters to six of the employees on Wednesday. Of the remaining two, one has since passed away and the other has already retired from service.
