In a significant step toward the expansion of golf in Northeast India, a high-level meeting was held on June 22 at the Indian Golf Union (IGU) headquarters on August Kranti Marg, New Delhi. 

The discussion featured Brijinder Singh, President of the IGU, and Sushanta Deb Barma, General Secretary of the Tripura Golf Association (TGA).

In a press released issued by Dr Sneha Debbarma Joint secretary, informed that the meeting focused on strategic initiatives to develop and promote golf within Tripura and across the broader Northeast region. Demonstrating the IGU’s immediate commitment, President Brijinder Singh handed over a professional golf set and 300 practice balls to the TGA to bolster local training efforts.

It said that the IGU announced plans to introduce golf at the school and university levels throughout Tripura to cultivate young talent.

The press release also informed that Singh confirmed that the IGU will take active steps toward developing a dedicated golf course in the state.

The IGU will launch the "IGU North East Feeder Tournament" and the "IGU Golf Premium League" to provide a competitive platform for golfers in the region.

Sushanta Deb Barma expressed his deep gratitude to the IGU for their steadfast support and material contributions. He noted that the TGA is prepared to launch several promotional initiatives under the IGU's guidance to ensure the sport reaches every corner of the state.

This partnership marks a new era for sports in the Northeast, aiming to establish the region as a prominent hub on the Indian golfing map.
