In a major administrative reshuffle, the Tripura Government has transferred 47 IPS and TPS officers across the state police establishment, a move being viewed as a significant step ahead of the upcoming Village Committee and Urban Local Body elections.
Among the notable changes, TPS officer Panna Lal Sen has been appointed as the new Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar, replacing D.P. Roy. As SDPO Sadar, Sen will oversee policing and law-and-order responsibilities in Agartala, one of the state's most sensitive policing jurisdictions.
Police sources describe Panna Lal Sen as a capable and promising officer whose posting is expected to strengthen policing in the Sadar subdivision. The appointment comes at a time when the post has drawn considerable public attention. While allegations of administrative irregularities and corruption have been made against the outgoing SDPO, D.P. Roy, no official findings establishing wrongdoing have been announced by the government.
Another significant development is the appointment of IPS officer Shankar Debnath as the new Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Debnath, regarded by many within the police establishment as an experienced officer, had been serving as Commandant of the 6th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
His transfer to the Economic Offences Wing marks a return to a key investigative assignment after spending nearly a year in the TSR. Although there have been claims in some quarters that his earlier posting was linked to complaints made against him, no official statement has confirmed those allegations or their basis.
The reshuffle also includes several other high-profile appointments. Sudhambika R. (IPS) has been shifted from Superintendent of Police, Unakoti, to SP, Cyber Crime. Rishabh (IPS) has been appointed the new SP of Unakoti, replacing her after serving as Additional SP of Gomati district. Nabadwip Jamatia (IPS) has been transferred from Cyber Crime to serve as Commandant of the 15th Battalion of TSR.
Other important changes include the appointment of Priyamadhuri Majumdar (TPS) as SP, Vigilance Organisation; Anirban Das (TPS) as SP, Gomati; H. Francis Darlong (TPS) as SP, Anti-Narcotics; and Meena Kumari Debbarma (TPS) as SP, Serious Crime.
The government has also reshuffled several SDPOs, Additional SPs, Commandants, Deputy Commandants, and officers serving in Special Branch, SCRB, CIAT School, Traffic, Vigilance, Anti-Narcotics, and district police units.
Officials said the large-scale reshuffle is intended to enhance administrative efficiency, strengthen intelligence gathering, and ensure effective maintenance of law and order in view of the forthcoming local body and Village Committee elections.
