In a major initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and transforming the busy Battala Market into a modern commercial hub, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder held a crucial meeting with local traders on Friday.
The meeting, held at the conference hall of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, focused on discussing the comprehensive redevelopment plan for Battala Market. AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid, corporators Nitu Dey and Jahnabi Das Chowdhury, nominated corporator and former Tripura BJP president Manoj Kanti Deb Roy, along with market traders, attended the meeting.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that the renovation and modernisation of Battala Market would be undertaken on a priority basis. He added that after the completion of the project, similar redevelopment works would be launched at Durga Chowmuhani Market, Lake Chowmuhani Market, and Border Golchakkar Market in phases.
The Mayor also informed that the upgradation of the fish market at Maharajganj has already commenced. In the coming days, the entire Maharajganj market area will be redeveloped with modern infrastructure and improved civic amenities.
According to the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the market redevelopment projects will prioritise better traffic management, improved infrastructure for traders and shoppers, and the creation of modern public facilities.
Officials expressed hope that the redevelopment of Battala Market would not only reduce traffic congestion in one of Agartala's busiest commercial areas but also create a more organised and business-friendly environment, benefiting both traders and customers.
