A deputation was submitted by a women’s rights group in West Tripura demanding strict punishment against the accused in a reported sexual assault case that has triggered concern in the region.

As per reports, a young man from the Kamalpur area allegedly deceived a young woman by promising her an iPhone and brought her to the Agartala Railway Station last Saturday. He later took her to a hotel where the alleged assault occurred. After the incident, the woman was reportedly abandoned in Agartala city.

The survivor later approached the West Agartala Women Police Station and lodged her complaint. Acting on the information, the case was handed over to the Amtali Police Station, which initiated an investigation and arrested the accused.

Following the arrest, a delegation of the All India Democratic Women's Association (West Tripura District Committee) met police officials on Monday and submitted a deputation pressing for exemplary punishment.

The delegation, including leaders Minati Biswas, Krishna Dey, Mitali Bhattacharya, and Arati Nandi, strongly condemned the incident. They stated that such crimes are damaging the social image of the region and called for enhanced measures to ensure women’s safety and stricter law enforcement.
