As part of a nationwide initiative to ensure timely and cost-effective resolution of civil disputes, the Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) has referred 996 cases to its nine Mediation Centres under the ongoing “Mediation for the Nation” campaign.
The 90-day special drive, launched by the National Legal Services Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee in collaboration with the Supreme Court of India, is being implemented across the country from July 1 to September 30, 2025.
Announcing the campaign's state-level rollout, Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury, Member Secretary of TSLSA, addressed a press conference at the Authority’s Conference Hall on Tuesday.
“The campaign focuses on a broad range of civil disputes—matrimonial conflicts, accident compensation, domestic violence, cheque bounce cases, consumer complaints, commercial and employment-related disputes, criminal conciliatory matters, debt recovery, property and land-related disputes, and others eligible for mediation,” Chowdhury said.
Highlighting the advantages of mediation, she added, “It is a recognized method of dispute resolution that helps both parties reach amicable settlements with the help of a neutral mediator—ensuring minimal cost and avoiding the burden of prolonged litigation.”
Tripura currently operates nine Mediation Centres—one at the Tripura High Court and one in each of the eight districts. Of the 996 cases referred till July 9, the highest number came from South Tripura with 353 cases, followed by Gomati (193), Dhalai (104), Sepahijala (98), and West Tripura (94). Khowai and Unakoti districts each reported 68 cases, while North Tripura had the lowest with 18.
Officials said the campaign has seen encouraging participation so far and is expected to significantly reduce pendency in civil matters through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
