Six, including four women held with cannabis of Rs 50 Lakh in Tripura

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police in Khowai district have arrested six individuals and seized cannabis worth approximately Rs 50 lakh in two separate operations conducted within the last 24 hours.

Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Panna Lal Sen informed that a 24x7 naka checkpoint has been set up in the Mungakami area under the Teliamura sub-division to curb illegal drug movement.

“Acting on specific inputs, we intensified our checking operations. On Sunday, when a container truck arrived at the naka point, we conducted a search in the presence of senior officials. During the inspection, we recovered 29 packets of cannabis weighing 209 kg. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹44 lakh. The driver, identified as Rajkumar Roy, has been arrested,” said SDPO Sen.

In a separate operation carried out late Saturday night, five persons—four of them women—were apprehended from the area near Trishabari railway station under Teliamura Police Station.

“The Teliamura police team achieved significant success in its anti-narcotics drive. During a routine search near the railway station, police intercepted a vehicle and recovered approximately 32 kg of cannabis. The seized consignment is valued at Rs 2 lakh in the market. Among those arrested are four women and one man,” the officer added.

Police said the five arrested individuals hail from Bihar’s Bhagalpur and Purnia districts. They have been identified as Ranjit Kumar Sahani (30), Ruchi Kumari (20), Pinki Devi (25), Lakshmi Devi (24), and Rupa Devi (28).

All six accused are currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to uncover more links in the drug smuggling network.
