Three including mother, son held with brown sugar in Khowai

In a major crackdown on narcotics, Tripura Police arrested three individuals, including a mother and her son, from the Paharmura area in Khowai district late Saturday night. 

The police also seized brown sugar valued at over Rs 1 lakh during the operation.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector Ranjit Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of Subash Park Out Post, along with SI Francis Halam, raided the residence of one Pradip Chandra Singha. The raid was conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.

"During the search, we recovered 10 grams of brown sugar and Rs 10,350 in cash. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is over Rs 1 lakh," said a senior police official. He confirmed that the entire operation was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

While the primary accused, Pradip Chandra Singha, managed to flee, police apprehended his wife Anjana Singha, their son Pratap Singha, and an associate identified as Atul Debbarma. All three have been taken into custody.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Efforts are currently underway to locate and arrest the absconding accused.
