Solar power gains momentum in Tripura: Power Minister

The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has received an enthusiastic response from residents across Tripura, said Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday.

The scheme, aimed at promoting household solar energy generation, helps reduce electricity bills and allows consumers to earn by feeding surplus power back into the grid.

Inaugurating a camp for the initiative at Belonia subdivision in South Tripura, Minister Nath emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to renewable energy, particularly solar power.

“Electricity is vital to modern life, and the Prime Minister’s focus on renewable sources is key to securing a sustainable future for the next generations,” he said.

The scheme empowers households to produce their own electricity, significantly cutting power expenses and creating opportunities for additional income through surplus energy sales. It is especially beneficial for economically disadvantaged groups.

Minister Nath noted that the scheme is being vigorously promoted across the state, with awareness camps held in various subdivisions.

“Many consumers have already installed solar power plants at their homes under this program, effectively eliminating their electricity bills. Some are also earning extra income by supplying excess electricity to the grid,” he added.

Highlighting the eco-friendly benefits, Nath said domestic users can install solar systems up to 10 kilowatts under the scheme.

“Unlike fossil fuels such as natural gas, solar energy is environmentally sustainable. I encourage all eligible citizens to take full advantage of this opportunity,” he concluded.
