Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma on Thursday urged citizens to actively participate in environmental conservation, stressing the need for tree plantation, reduced plastic usage, and forest protection to keep the state healthy and disaster-resilient.
Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, Debbarma said, “I congratulate everyone on this day dedicated to nature. This is a great opportunity to create awareness among the people about the importance of a clean and green environment. If we don’t keep our surroundings healthy and beautiful, human society cannot sustain itself.”
He emphasized that a healthy Tripura is only possible through the protection of forests and catchment areas, which play a crucial role in preventing floods.
“We must come forward collectively to safeguard our natural resources,” he said.
The minister also appealed to the public to avoid the use of plastic and eco-unfriendly products. “I request everyone to plant more trees and reduce the use of plastic in their daily lives. Let us work together to make Tripura greener, cleaner, and healthier,” he added.
World Environment Day, observed every year on June 5, is a global platform to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of the environment.
The event and a rally on this day was organized by the Tripura State Pollution Control Board and Department of Science and Technology.
