The renovation and beautification work of the pond located near Ward No. 11 office in the Abhoynagar area of the capital city, which had remained abandoned for nearly five decades, has reached its final stage.
The project, undertaken by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), is expected to be opened for the public within this month, said AMC Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder.
After inspecting the project site on Sunday, Mayor Deepak Majumder said that the beautification initiative was launched with the aim of transforming the long-neglected and unused pond into a modern and aesthetically appealing space. He stated that most of the work has already been completed and the remaining tasks are being carried out on a priority basis.
The Mayor informed that if everything progresses according to plan, the project will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha within the current month. Following the inauguration, the renovated pond area will be opened for residents and visitors.
Majumder further said that the beautification project would not only enhance the environment and visual appeal of the Abhoynagar locality but also provide residents with a clean and pleasant recreational space. He expressed hope that the rejuvenated water body would become one of the major attractions of the area.
Local residents have also welcomed the initiative, stating that the restoration of the abandoned pond will improve the overall beauty of the locality and create a new destination for leisure and relaxation for city dwellers.
