The Tripura Chapter of the All India Services (AIS) Associations has criticized the remarks allegedly made by Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury against South Tripura Superintendent of Police (SP) Mourya Krishna C, IPS, calling the comments inappropriate and inconsistent with the standards expected of a constitutional office-bearer.
In a joint statement issued by the IAS, IPS, and IFS Associations, the officers' bodies expressed concern over reports that the Leader of Opposition referred to the serving IPS officer as an "idiot" while the officer was carrying out official duties.
The associations stated that the SP had been performing his responsibilities in accordance with the law and maintained that personal attacks on officers acting in good faith could weaken public trust in institutions and adversely impact the morale of the police and civil services.
While recognizing the right of elected representatives to question government decisions and administrative actions, the statement emphasized that public criticism should remain respectful and should not involve personal or derogatory remarks against officers discharging their official responsibilities.
The associations further claimed that this was not an isolated incident, alleging that Chaudhury had previously made unverified and offensive comments against several senior government officials. Such repeated personal allegations, they said, are detrimental to the dignity of public institutions and could discourage officers from carrying out their duties impartially.
Urging restraint and accountability, the AIS Associations called upon the Leader of Opposition to withdraw the remarks and issue an unconditional public apology. They also appealed to political leaders across party lines to maintain civility, mutual respect, and decorum in public discourse to safeguard the effective functioning of democratic institutions.
The joint statement was signed by Rajesh Kumar Das on behalf of the IAS Association, Tripura Chapter; R. Daribing for the IPS Association, Tripura Chapter; and S. Prabhu representing the IFS Association, Tripura Chapter.
